Job Specification:
To provide high-quality care, education, and support for children within a safe, nurturing, and stimulating nursery environment. The Nursery Practitioner will play a key role in promoting children’s learning, development, wellbeing, and independence through engaging, age-appropriate activities that reflect the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The post holder will build positive and trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues, ensuring that every child feels valued, respected, and supported to reach their full potential. They will contribute to the planning, observation, assessment, and delivery of activities that meet individual developmental needs and interests, fostering a love of learning and encouraging children’s confidence, curiosity, and social skills.
The Nursery Practitioner will actively promote inclusive practice by recognising and celebrating diversity, ensuring equality of opportunity, and creating an environment where all children and families feel welcomed and included. They will support children with varying abilities, backgrounds, cultures, languages, and needs, adapting activities and approaches to enable full participation and positive outcomes for every child. Working in partnership with parents, carers, and external professionals where appropriate, they will help identify and respond to additional needs, ensuring that all children receive the support necessary to thrive.
The role requires a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, maintaining high standards of health and safety, and contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture that upholds the nursery’s values and commitment to excellence in early years education and care.
Key Responsibilities :
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures
• Contribute to a high standard of quality within the nursery, including practice, environment and resources to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage
• Ensure appropriate planning and assessment is accurately maintained for key children
• Undertake the role of key person as described in the policy
• Prepare and supervise activities
• Supervise and support children at all times
• Ensure that equality of access and opportunity is provided to all children, parents, staff and visitors
• Ensure that all children are kept safe
• Notify Designated Officer of any safeguarding concerns
• Maintain a positive attitude at all times with children, parents, colleagues and visitors
• Develop and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, parents and carers
• Ensure confidentiality, where appropriate, is maintained
• Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures and undertake a shared responsibility for cleanliness and health and safety throughout the nursery
• Work as part of a team to ensure the company’s values are maintained
• Attend monthly staff meetings, planning meetings and undertake training as required
• Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by line manager
